Press Release Tools for Small Business

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

press release tools for small businessSmall business marketers used to pay little attention to the press release as a marketing tool – it was a tool for the big boys who had the budgets to hire public relations firms.

Like everything else these days, the web has changed that. Small business owners and marketers can now put their news directly in front of their customers and prospects with online press release creation and distribution tools. Below are some of my favorite tools for creating and distributing press releases.

Instant Press Release – this tool from Duct Tape Marketing gives you a guided template for creating and formatting your press release properly.

Once you create your press release, it’s time to distribute it. New sites and services for distributing press releases are popping up every day. Here are a few of my favorites:

PRWeb – distributes your release to every major news site and search engine on the Web.PRWeb has a variety of pricing plans to meet your needs.

PRLog – a nice, free, press release distribution site. I experienced good search engine results with press releases I’ve posted on prlog.

PitchEngine – Combine the press release with images, video, and social networking tools and instead of a press release you have a one-page website to tell your story.

Pressitt – Another social media news release tool. Nice free way to distribute press releases that get picked up on social sites.

Use these tools to get your message out, get links back to your website, and earn trust – and more PR!

PitchEngine Announces Pay-Per-Pitch

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

pitchengine

PitchEngine, the social PR platform created by Jason Kintzler, recently announced their new “Pay-Per-Pitch” plan. Now you can create and distribute your pitch for only $29.

Prior to the announcement, PitchEngine had provided a free account and a subscription account. The free account allows you to have one live pitch at a time and free pitches expire after 30 days.

The subscription model allows you to create an unlimited number of pitches that live forever on the PitchEngine site. The subscription model price is $39 per month. If you opt to pay for a year’s subscription up front you receive one month’s service free (pay for 11 months, get 12). You can upgrade or downgrade your account at anytime, however, you will not receive a refund.

You can also purchase add-ons that allow you to easily share your newsroom on your website or Facebook page.

Regular readers of this blog know that I and other members of the Duct Tape Marketing Consultant network believe PR should be a part of your marketing system and we have been talking about PitchEngine in our Social Media Pro course for quite some time now. While I think this new pay-per-pitch model is a great way for professional service firms to dip their toes in the water and learn more about PitchEngine, most of you will want to create pitches on a consistent basis so upgrading to the monthly subscription for an extra $10 is a “no brainer”.

Cool HARO Story

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Help A Reporter Out (HARO) is Peter Shankman's cool service that connects reporters and other writers with sources. Writers send request to Peter and he forwards them out the subscribers on his list. Sounds simple, right – but it's really changing the reporting game, as this story from Peter illustrates:

"So… Here's why HARO rocks – Yesterday, a reporter emails with an
urgent query. I post it on Twitter – www.twitter.com/skydiver -  I
get an email tonight, the story is running in the print edition of
the paper tomorrow, and HARO got the reporters the sources she
needed. The game – it be a changing. The story is here.

Are there ways that you can connect members of your network to produce a game-changing product or service?

First time you are hearing about HARO? Journalists sign up for HARO here. Sources can learn more and sign up here.
